Desktop Computers on the TCU Network

Purchasing Desktop Computers

TCU departments are urged to purchase computers through the Technology Resources department.  Consulting and purchase requests can be made at the Information Commons by calling extension 6855.  The university is on a cycle of replacing lab, faculty and staff computers.  By ordering equipment through Technology Resources, you will be eligible to receive purchase consultation, installation and ongoing support.

Minimum Configuration for Supported Desktop Computers

The following list of Minimum Configurations is intended to provide the TCU community with minimum standards for personal computers that can be installed on the TCU network.  Supported systems include all “business line” models from Apple or Hewlett Packard/Compaq and will be considered priorities for network installation.  Systems not supported will be installed as resources allow, unless there are known problems with the particular brand.  If difficulties arise during the installation, Technology Resources does not promise it can continue to commit resources to correct problems and may request the system be replaced by a certified one.

Adherence to the listed standards will allow Technology Resources to provide timely service and support for your personal computers.  Working with Technology Resources during your purchase decision will enable us to be better equipped to support your system during its lifetime.  The rapid change in technology and our limited personnel resources make it difficult to adequately support the many software and network applications on hardware platforms that are not network compatible.  Technology Resources cannot justify using inordinate resources attempting to support non-standard equipment.

This list is updated frequently.  Please call the Information Commons at extension 6855 for an updated list of the minimum configuration standards.
