Network Registration

Network cards must be registered at http://my.tcu.edu/ in order to connect to the ResNet network.  In addition, wireless cards must be registered before connecting to the StuWireless network.  The steps below describe how to find (Part 1) and register (Part 2) your network and wireless cards.

 

Part 1

 

Find the Network (Ethernet) Address in Windows Vista

  • Select the Start button
  • Type command in the search box and press enter
  • At the Command Prompt, type ipconfig/all (with no spaces)
  • Press Enter
  • Find the Physical Address under the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection
  • Write down the address for future reference

  • Find the Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection
  • Find the Physical Address for the Wireless Network Connection
  • Write down the address for future reference 

 

Find the Network (Ethernet) Address in Windows XP

  • Select the Start button
  • Select Run
  • Type the word command in the box
  • Press OK
  • At the Command Prompt, type ipconfig/all (with no spaces)
  • Press Enter
  • Find the LAN or Local Area Connection
  • Find the Physical Address for the Local Area Connection
  • Write down the address for future reference
  • Find the Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection
  • Find the Physical Address for the Wireless Network Connection
  • Write down the address for future reference 

The example below shows 2 different addresses on the same machine.  The first for the Local Area Connection and the Wireless Connection below.

 

 

 

Find the Network (Ethernet) Address in Macintosh OS X

  • Go to System Preferences
  • Select Network
  • Show: Built-in Ethernet
  • Click Ethernet button on the bar
  • The Ethernet Address is the Ethernet ID shown

 

 

Find the Wireless Address in Macintosh OS X

  • Go to System Preferences
  • Select Network
  • Show: Airport
  • Select the Airport button from the bar
  • The Wireless Network Address is the Airport ID shown

 

 

Part 2

 

Register the Network (Ethernet) Address and Wireless Address

 

 

  • Carefully read the TCU Computing Resources Policy and click Accept to continue.

  • Students may register up to four addresses on the TCU network, including Game Boxes.
  • Under *subnet:
    - choose Student-Wired to connect your computer using an Ethernet cable
    - choose Student-Wireless to register your computer on the wireless network
  • For *Computer Type, select the operating system on your computer. In addition to Windows XP, Vista, Mac OSX, Mac OSX.5 and Linux, Game Consoles and Mobile Devices can be registered.
  • Type the MAC address you noted earlier underneath the Ethernet Address column. No dashes necessary.
  • For *My Description, write a short description for the computer registered, i.e. “Frog’s Ethernet”, for easy identification.
  • To register another device, click on the Insert New Address button and follow the steps again.
