Reconnect Your Mac Computer

Here are some basic instructions and visual aids to help you reconnect your Macintosh computer in the event that it needs to be disconnected and moved.
Below is a photo of the typical rear panel on most Macintosh computers on campus.

 

 

 

 

The following are descriptions and photos of the rear panel and the connection components:
             

 

 

Power Outlet 

 

 

 

 

Pictured above is the power outlet connection. You will need to insert the grooved part of the power cable into this port on the rear panel of the computer. The forked part of the cable needs to be inserted into a power strip or into a wall outlet.  The power cable is pictured below:

 

 

 

 

 

Mouse Connection

 

 

 

 

Macintosh mice are USB and can be connected to the USB port on the side of the keyboard (please note the picture above).  You will need to insert the USB connection that extends from the mouse into the USB port on the side of the keyboard. The mac mouse is pictured below:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Keyboard Connection

 

 

 

 

 

This is the keyboard connection is pictured above. Macintosh keyboards are USB and can fit into either of the USB ports shown above. You will need to insert the USB connection that extends from the keyboard into the USB port on the rear panel of the computer. The keyboard looks like this:

 

 

 

 

 

Network Connection

 

 

 

 

 

This is the network connection port where you will connect the blue patch cable from the network outlet in the wall. The following picture is of a network patch cable:

Monitor Connection

 

 

 

 

Above is the monitor connection. You will need to insert the monitor cable that extends from the monitor into the left side DVI port on the rear panel of the computer. The monitor cable looks like this:

 

 

 

 

Your monitor may have a VGA connection cable that is connected to a VGA to DVI adapter. The blue VGA cable extending from the monitor will need to connect to the curved end of the adapter. The other square side will need to connect to the DVI port on the rear panel of the computer.  The adapter will look like the picture below:

 

 

 

 

 

Speaker Connection

 

 

 

Pictured above is the speaker connection. You will need to insert the green (they might be in other colors as well) speaker connection that extends from the speaker into the speaker port on the rear panel of the computer. The speaker cable often looks like this:
