Windows XP Network Setup
Part 1: Find the Network (Ethernet) Address in Windows XP

- Select the Start button
- Select Run
- Type the word command in the box
- Press OK
- At the Command Prompt, type ipconfig/all (with no spaces)
- Press Enter
- Find the LAN or Local Area Connection
- Find the Physical Address for the Local Area Connection
- Write down the address for future reference
- Find the Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection
- Find the Physical Address for the Wireless Network Connection
- Write down the address for future reference
The example below shows 2 different addresses on the same machine. The first for the Local Area Connection and the Wireless Connection below.
Your network connection will be active after the network (Ethernet) address has been registered. Usually, no configuration is necessary, but there are some settings that can be checked.

Part 2: Register your Network Address

- Login to http://my.tcu.edu
- Choose Helpful Links from the menu
- Choose the link: TCU Network Registration

- For Subnet/Connection Type:
- Choose ResNet to register an address for the ResNet connection
- Choose Wireless to register for a wireless connection
- Fill in the Ethernet Address of the network or wireless card
- Choose the Operating System Type (e.g. Windows Vista, Windows XP, Mac OS X)
- Click the Create New Ethernet Address Information button
- Follow the same process to register more than one card
Part 3: ResNet Network Setup for Windows XP
- Select Control Panel from the Start menu
- Navigate to the Network Connections icon: choose Network and Internet Connections then Network Connections
- Find the Local Area Connection icon and click on it with your right mouse button
- Select Properties
- Make sure that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)> is checked
- Click on Internet Protocol (TCI/IP) to highlight it and click Properties
- Make sure that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are checked
- The settings under the Alternate Configuration tab and Advanced button are correct by default. No changes are needed

Windows XP ResNet setup is complete!
