Student Web Pages

TCU students have the ability to create personal web pages to publish on the TCU student web server. Web development software is available in TCU campus PC labs and Macintosh labs. Other applications can be found on the Internet and downloaded for free. The Internet is also a great source for reference guides and documentation.

 

To get started from a PC Lab:

  • Log into a PC from a campus lab
  • Open My computer and find your U:\ drive
  • Find the folder named WWWPUB on your U:\ drive  
  • After creating your web pages, store all of the files in the WWWPUB folder. Be sure to include all web pages, graphic files, and picture files in the WWWPUB folder.
  • Name your Home page index.html or index.htm or index.asp or default.htm or default.asp and save it in the WWWPUB folder on your U:\ drive.
  • Your web page address will be: "http://wwwstu.tcu.edu/username"

To get started from a Macintosh:

  • Use an FTP program to connect to your account. (Fetch is a popular program that is available in the TCU campus labs.)
  • Find the folder named WWWPUB  
  • After creating your web pages, store all of the files in the WWWPUB folder. Be sure to include all web pages, graphic files, and picture files in the WWWPUB folder.
  • Name your Home page  index.html or index.htm or index.asp or default.htm or default.asp and save it in the WWWPUB folder
  • Your web page address will be:"http://wwwstu.tcu.edu/username"

To get started from an off-campus location or residence hall:

  • Use an FTP program to connect to your account. (Fetch is a popular program that is available for Macintosh computers. WinSCP is recommended for use on a PC. Both applications can be downloaded from the Internet.)
  • Find the folder named WWWPUB  
  • After creating your web pages, store all of the files in the WWWPUB folder. Be sure to include all web pages, graphic files, and picture files in the WWWPUB folder.
  • Name your Home page  index.html or index.htm or index.asp or default.htm or default.asp and save it in the WWWPUB folder
  • Your web page address will be: "http://wwwstu.tcu.edu/username"

 

FTP Applications:

 

Fetch for Macintosh and WinSCP for PC are recommended FTP applications to use.  Both applications and many more can be downloaded from the Internet.  More information on how to FTP files to the student server can be found here.

 

 

Other Notes:

 

The student file server does not contain FrontPage extensions.
