TCU Student AntiVirus Software

 

TCU provides licensed copies of Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 and Symantec AntiVirus 10 software to all students.  Each windows computer connected to the ResNet network is required to have the TCU-provided Student AntiVirus installed.  The software is configured to download new updates and virus definition files automatically.  Network  privileges are suspended for those who do not install the current version of the anti-virus software and those who do not keep the definition files up-to-date.  By utilizing an effective anti-virus software on ResNet, a fast, secure and reliable network can be maintained.

 

Version Requirements

 

Windows users: If the TCU Symantec Endpoint Protection software is already installed on your computer, verify that you are running the required version using the version chart below.  If running an older version, please follow the instructions to download and install the required version.

 

Macintosh users: If the TCU-provided Symantec AntiVirus software is already installed on your computer, verify that you are running the required version using the version chart below. If running an older version, please follow the instructions to download and install the required version.

 

TCU AntiVirus Requirements for Fall 2009

  • Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.0.4202.75 is required for Windows XP
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.0.4202.75 is required for Windows Vista
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 is available for Windows 7 
  • Symantec Version 10.2 is recommended for Macintosh OS X 10.5 Leopard
  • Symantec Version 10.2 is incompatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.  Please remove Symantec before upgrading to Snow Leopard.

 

Find the TCU Student AntiVirus Version in Windows XP and Windows Vista

  • Select Start
  • Select All Programs
  • Select Symantec Endpoint Protection and select Symantec Endpoint Protection from the list 
  • Select the Help and Support button
  • Click About
  • The Symantec Endpoint Protection version will be shown in the window.  If the version is not 11.0.4202.75, please download and install the latest version.

 

 

Download the TCU Student AntiVirus Software

 

The TCU Student AntiVirus software is available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Macintosh OS X 10.5 at http://my.tcu.edu/.

 

  • In Windows, use Internet Explorer to login to http://my.tcu.edu/
  • In Macintosh OS X 10.5, use Safari or Mozilla to login to http://my.tcu.edu/ 
  • On the left menu, find Helpful Links
  • Select the Antivirus Download link

 

 

 

  • Read both bullet points and check both check boxes
  • Read through the page and follow the set of instructions pertaining to the type of operating system you have

If unable to download the anti-virus software from the website, students may obtain copies from the Computer Help Desk.  

 

 

Install the TCU AntiVirus Software

 

Important First Step:  Before installing the TCU Student version of Symantec AntiVirus, any other anti-virus software must be removed (including previously installed versions of Symantec AntiVirus).

  • To remove previously installed anti-virus software, consult the documentation that came with the product or call the vendor's help line.
  • In Windows, software can usually be removed by choosing Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.  Use Add/Remove Programs to find any anti-virus software listed, click once to highlight it and click the Remove button to initiate the uninstall process.
  • After uninstalling, reboot the computer.

 

Updating TCU AntiVirus Software During Summer and Breaks

 

Students may continue to use the TCU Student AntiVirus software when not on campus.  Updates can be obtained by choosing the LiveUpdate button.
