Operating System Updates

It is imperative to keep your computer protected of viruses, spyware,
and hackers. ResNet users are required to keep operating systems
up-to-date by installing Security and Critical patches on a regular
basis.

 

Windows Update

  • In Internet Explorer 7, select Tools  
  • Select Windows Update 
  • Install all Security and Critical patches

 

 



Configure Windows XP to Run Automatic Updates

  • Navigate to the Control Panel 
  • Select Security Center, select Automatic Updates 
  • Make appropriate selections for timing of updates and download instructions.  Recommendation is to Automatically download and install at least once a week.

 

 

 

Configure Windows Vista to Run Automatic Updates

  • Navigate to the Control Panel
  • Select Windows Update, select Change Settings


 

 

 

Configure Windows 7 to Run Automatic Updates

  • Navigate to the Control Panel
  • Select Windows Update, select Change Settings

 

 

Macintosh OS 10.5 Updates

  • To download Apple security update:
    go to System Preferences, select Software Update, click Check Now

  • If your computer is up-to-date, a screen will appear saying "Your software is up to date."
  • If you computer requires updates, the Software Update window will display all the updates currently availalbe for you Mac.

 


  • Choose to Install Items.  Note that some Macs will require an administrator password to install the updates.

 

 

Configure Mac OS Updates Automatically

  • go to System Preferences
  • select Software Update
  • check the box for Check for Updates
  • make appropriate selections for timing of updates and download instructions
