Operating System Updates
It is imperative to keep your computer protected of viruses, spyware,
and hackers. ResNet users are required to keep operating systems
up-to-date by installing Security and Critical patches on a regular
basis.
Windows Update
- In Internet Explorer 7, select Tools
- Select Windows Update
- Install all Security and Critical patches

Configure Windows XP to Run Automatic Updates
- Navigate to the Control Panel
- Select Security Center, select Automatic Updates
- Make appropriate selections for timing of updates and download instructions. Recommendation is to Automatically download and install at least once a week.

Configure Windows Vista to Run Automatic Updates
- Navigate to the Control Panel
- Select Windows Update, select Change Settings

Configure Windows 7 to Run Automatic Updates
- Navigate to the Control Panel
- Select Windows Update, select Change Settings

Macintosh OS 10.5 Updates
- To download Apple security update:
go to System Preferences, select Software Update, click Check Now

- If your computer is up-to-date, a screen will appear saying "Your software is up to date."
- If you computer requires updates, the Software Update window will display all the updates currently availalbe for you Mac.

- Choose to Install Items. Note that some Macs will require an administrator password to install the updates.

Configure Mac OS Updates Automatically
- go to System Preferences
- select Software Update
- check the box for Check for Updates
- make appropriate selections for timing of updates and download instructions
