Update your Operating System (OS)

It is imperative to keep computers protected due to the dangers of viruses, spyware, and hackers. ResNet users are required to keep operating systems up-to-date by installing Security and Critical patches on a regular basis.

Windows Update:

Using Internet Explorer, select Tools from the menu

select Windows Update

then install all Security and Critical patches

Configure Windows Update to Run Automatically:

It is recommended to configure Windows to download these updates automatically. To configure Automatic Updates:

navigate to the Control Panel

select Security Center

make appropriate selections for timing of updates and download instructions

Macintosh OS Update:

select Software Update from System Preferences

Configure Macintosh Software Update to Run Automatically:

It is recommended to configure your computer to download these updates automatically. To configure Automatic Updates in Macintosh:

select Software Update from System Preferences

select the check box to Check for updates

make appropriate selections for timing of updates and download instruction
